About Me
Blessed Stay-at-Home-Mom
I was blessed to be a Stay-at-Home-Mom for most of my childraising years. I’ve thanked God, more often than I can count, for the fact that I was raised by my mother, a SAHM until my teen years. My mother’s mom was also a homemaker, and so it went on, back for generations. This gives me a hands-on understanding of the things mommas deal with in the day-to-day of homemaking.
I’m thankful to be the mother of five wonderful children who have grown into caring, responsible adults. From my own offspring, I now have no less than 14 grandchildren to love and pray for.
Raising Children Who Love God
I took very seriously the responsiblity God gave me to train up my children in the ways of the Lord. From before my firstborn’s conception, I prayed for my children. I read the Bible aloud while expecting my firstborn. I’d been given to understand my unborn child could hear, at least my voice, if not the articulation of each word. From that time, I read my Bible to my children every day. Well, okay, there were times that was a bit more of a challenge than I was up to. Those were the times when I quoted passages of scripture that I had memorized, and I often sang songs with Bible verses or principles in them. I wanted the Word of God to be as familiar to my children as my own voice.
Our Pastor and his wife taught parenting classes for years. I loved these, making notes as fast as I could scribble! The lessons were a huge source of wisdom, strength, and inspiration to me.
I knew I needed to learn how to be a Christian Mother. I certainly didn’t want to see them “tumble-up”, to coin a term used in a vintage book. My goal was to bring my kids up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. I still have those notes!
Our family home was a happy, busy, God-and-Church centered hub for friends and extended family. Entertaining provided us with many wonderful experiences; memories we cherish to this day.
My family never wondered if we would be going to Church services or events. Outreach, bus ministry, Youth activities, meetings out of town, clean-up days, special events like Round-Up Sunday, Sunday School…Oh, the list could go on and on.
We have been part of a busy Church family, and were always involved. We didn’t participate simply because our leadership expressed that this is what is expected. We did what we did joyfully as unto the Lord, and we loved it all!
Homemaking Skills-Training
It’s a good thing I’ve always had a deep love for learning and creating. God put that in me, and it has helped me so many times! The things I’ve learned in my efforts to be a good homemaker often became, when God willed it, open doors for other opportunities.
Things I learned:
How Did I Do It All?
As I look back over the past, I wonder myself: How did I do it all? I remember feeling like I was always tired. I believe it’s safe to say most mothers of young ones often feel tired, and I was no exception. I have often confessed that I learned to do the things I did out of “self-preservation!”
Leaning on Jesus is Key
A creative mother-of-five who loves organization and a peaceful atmosphere: How much that seems to describe vastly opposite personality types!
During the early years, my homemaker life was frankly Not Smooth Sailing. I struggled to make things better, praying about everything from every angle I could think of.
I discovered that leaning on Jesus was the key. The things that gave me joy and victory were prayer, fasting, praising God no matter what, and clinging to God’s promises. These are the things; common, well-known, possibly under-utilized tools, which God used to bring me through with a smile and a happy heart at the end of the day.
God’s Strength – Perfected in My Weakness
I can see now that God’s strength is what enabled me to accomplish so much despite my weaknesses. He used the seemingly disparate elements of my personality traits, with the family I was the homemaker for, to build a more well-rounded homelife for my husband and our children.
My intense desire for organization and peace compelled me to seek God’s help to improve things. As a result, over time, I did learn how. Life in our home became sweeter, and stayed that way longer, even in the rough-water times.
Making the Way Easier for You
You can become the wise, gracious, welcoming, productive, and prudent manager of your household you long to be.
Many ladies in this day and age simply didn’t have a stay-at-home-mom or someone else who could pass homemaking skills and knowledge on to them. This may have been the case for you.
Yet, here you are, at this special time in your life. You want to be that gracious lady in your own home, the homemaker who makes her family feel loved, self-confident, God-fearing, and special. You may be here today as a result of searching for the best answers.
My heart’s desire is to make the way easier for you as a homemaker.
What I have to share with you is based on my own experiences, on what older, successful homemakers have passed on to me, and on the principles of God’s holy Word.
What I share here is meant to encourage and bless you in your role as the leading lady in your home.
I sincerely believe that anyone with the determination to do what it takes to learn, and who has sound teaching, CAN learn new skills. This includes You, as the homemaker for your family.
